After attending the Career Expo, you may feel confident and think you have done the right things, such as presenting your elevator pitch positively, networking and leaving a memorable impression of yourself with recruiters. However, these are just the initial steps. Read on for steps to take after Expo!
To ensure your ongoing success after Expo, here are some additional things you need to do:
Submit your resume/application online
You may already have submitted your resume at Expo, but usually companies require candidates to submit their formal applications online or email resumes to recruiters. Be sure to check the specific requirements for the employer.
Send a Thank you letter to people you talked with
This can either be an email or a handwritten letter. Cite something specific from your conversation. This will remind recruiters who they have talked to and help make you memorable. So do this as soon as possible because otherwise you will forget what you talked about at Expo!
Prepare for interviews
You will likely get an interview if the recruiter thinks you meet their qualifications. Research the company/organization and the position and practice with your peers or make a mock interview appointment with the CCD.
Plan to follow up
Send another email to the recruiters after you submit your application and obtain more information about next steps. Even if there are no positions for you right now, keeping in touch with your contacts will give you potential opportunities in the future.
